Beating the Holiday Blues: A Prayer for the Melancholy

IMG_3413Holidays can be difficult, especially for those who struggle with depression and addiction. Do you know the song, “Have Yourself A Merry, Little Christmas”? It was recorded by Judy Garland, in 1944, for the movie, “Meet Me in St. Louis.” It’s not a typical holiday song. It’s not cheery or saccharin or superficial.

Things That Are Evil

When I hear this phrase, the first things I think of are unmitigatingly evil people: Hitler, Stalin, Slobodan Milošević, Osama bin Laden. And, unmitigatingly evil groups of people: the Nazis, the Khmer Rouge, Boko Haram, ISIS.

Let’s Celebrate Marriage AND Marriage Equality

A key ingredient of work-life balance is enjoying the love of family and friends. Traditionally, the institution of marriage has helped solidify these commitments, but not everyone was allowed to marry. Thank God that changed this year, when the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that marriage no longer be the exclusive right of one group or another and that gays and lesbians  be allowed to experience the joys and benefits of this essential institution.

Stress Management Tip #2: Ask Yourself: “Is This the Number I Want?”
